Cooling Castle Barn is a dream venue for any Kent wedding photographer. This beautifully restored barn, set within the grounds of the historic Cooling Castle in Kent, dates back to the 14th century and perfectly blends rustic charm with modern comfort. From the exposed wooden beams to the high vaulted ceilings, Cooling Castle Barn is one of the most sought-after barn wedding venues in Kent.

Of course, while the venue plays an important role, it’s always the people who make a wedding truly special. Chloe and Jason were an absolute pleasure to photograph, an easy-going, relaxed couple who wanted nothing more than to enjoy time with their friends and family on their wedding day.

The morning began in the getting-ready suite at Cooling Castle, which is the ideal place to start the day (and the breakfast they serve is pretty great too!). While Chloe put the finishing touches in place, I spent time with Jason and his groomsmen, who also got ready on site. Having everything in one location always makes the day flow so smoothly, and makes my job as a wedding photographer even easier.

With it being a summer wedding at Cooling Castle Barn, there was only one choice for the ceremony: an outdoor ceremony under the Pavilion in the castle gardens. I absolutely love photographing outdoor ceremonies here. The freedom to move around, combined with the beautifully maintained gardens, creates such natural and timeless wedding photographs.

After the ceremony and group photos, I focused on capturing the candid moments, the hugs, handshakes and laughter that really tell the story of a wedding day. I then whisked Chloe and Jason away for a few relaxed portraits before they joined their guests for their wedding breakfast in the stunning barn at Cooling Castle.

Later in the day, we were treated to perfect conditions, and the bride and groom were keen to make the most of golden hour. Cooling Castle Barn offers incredible light in the evening, making it ideal for romantic, natural wedding photography as the sun sets.

We finished the day with some creative silhouette photographs under the Pavilion as the sun disappeared, something a little different from what you usually see, and definitely a few shots destined for the walls at home.
