SECRET GARDEN SUMMER WEDDING
Philippa & Charlie's Relaxed Summer Wedding: A Golden Hour Love Story (And a Cake That Had Other Plans)

If you've stepped outside at any point during the summer of 2026, you'll know it's been a scorcher. Records broken, everyone complaining about the heat, fans sold out everywhere you look and it's fair to say this has been one of the hottest summers in years. But if you ask Philippa and Charlie, the heat didn't take a single ounce of energy out of their wedding day. If anything, it added to the glow.
A Relaxed, Informal Kind of Wedding Day
From the very first moment, it was clear this wasn't going to be a stiff, tightly-scheduled affair. Philippa and Charlie wanted their day to feel like them , easy, warm, and full of laughter rather than nerves. Guests mingled with drinks in hand, making full use of the garden games, and there was an overwhelming sense that everyone was simply there to enjoy themselves rather than perform for the camera.
That relaxed, informal energy is honestly one of my favourite things to photograph. When couples let go of the pressure to make everything "perfect," the real moments the proper laughs, the sneaky glances, the happy tears, come through so much more naturally. Philippa and Charlie at The Secret Garden gave us exactly that.
Chasing the Golden Hour at the Secret Garden
With a summer this hot, golden hour became the MVP of the day. As the sun started to dip and that soft, warm light rolled in, we snuck the newlyweds away for a set of portraits that genuinely gave me so much excitement looking through the camera. The heat of the day melted into this gentle, golden glow, and the light did most of the work for us.
Honestly, these are some of the most stunning wedding photographs I've captured this year. There's something about golden hour light on a summer evening that just can't be recreated any other way, it's soft, it's flattering, and it makes every couple look like they're glowing from the inside out (which, in Philippa and Charlie's case, they absolutely were).
The Cake Cut That Didn't Quite Go to Plan
No relaxed wedding story would be complete without a little chaos, and this one came courtesy of the cake. As Philippa and Charlie lined up for the classic cake-cutting photo, the knife went in… and, well, the cake had other ideas. Rather than a clean, elegant slice, one of the tiers gave way but it's a moment that will be looked back on for years to come.
Philippa and Charlie handled it with exactly the good humour you'd expect from two people who'd spent the whole day not sweating the small stuff (quite literally, given the heat). And honestly? Some of the best wedding photos are the unplanned ones.
A Day to Remember at The Secret Garden
Heatwave or not, Philippa and Charlie's wedding was a beautiful reminder that the best days aren't about flawless execution, they're about the people, the laughter, and the light. Relaxed, golden, and just a little bit chaotic in the best possible way.
Congratulations, Philippa and Charlie, thank you for having us capture it all!
